Come to Dublin and experience the wealth of creativity and the warmth of hospitality that Liberties Papers has to offer.
This is a 4 day mixed media craft workshop where you will be in capable hands of artist and teacher Sinead Lawson and Sheila Barnes co-founder, mother of six, teacher, crafter etc. etc.
The course is based in our specialist paper shop and studio in Terenure in Dublin. It is a treasure trove of all things paper from around the world. Husband and wife team Paul and Sheila Barnes have over 25 years experience looking after artists and crafters with specialist papers. Together with Sinead they want to share this love of paper with you.
Sinead is a hugely experienced mixed media artist and teacher. Her work is featured in Suzanne Mc Neill's "Gelli Arts Printing guide". She has been teaching in Liberties Papers for three years. Her relaxed manner and can-do attitude is appealing to people of all abilities.
Great beauty is inspirational, so we'll be taking you to Glendalough in County Wicklow, the garden of Ireland, and the Dublin mountains. This is a site of great natural beauty and historical importance. Here we will do sketching using the hugely doable "Thumbnail sketch technique". These sketches can be the platform for your studio work.
You can see from the schedule that there's lots of studio time. You'll be provided with a selection of wonderful papers from our extensive range. We'll do Gelli Art Printing, Collage, Embroidery, Letterpress Printing, and of course, Book Binding so that you'll be able to take home and cherish the fruit of your wonderful week in Dublin.
In the midst of all this there will be numerous cups of tea and coffee, lunch in Wicklow, lunch in Sheila's house (7 minutes walk away), and drinks and a meal in the local pub to cap it all off on the final day.
The course is limited to 6 adults. The studio is upstairs over the shop and unfortunately there is no elevator. All materials are included, no need to bring anything other than your enthusiasm. We will arrange to meet for a drink, on the Monday evening before we start, at a local hostelry here in Terenure.
The images illustrate the "bare book" and a completed book; Sinead, Sheila and Paul in Glendalough and the Dublin Mountains on a chilly February Sunday; also Sinead and Sheila in the studio in Terenure.
