This handmade paper is cooked with soda ash, with added gofun (shell powder), dried on wooden boards. Inclusion of gofun improves dimensional stability of the paper: prevents shrinkage & curling in changing humidity levels. Used in Japan for backing for scrolls to help them hang flat.
