Our Mexican Amate is a traditional craft paper, used for centuries in Mexico to produce handmade art pieces. Its one-of-a-kind texture and vibrant colour make it an ideal material for a variety of art projects.

This paper is made by a small community of Otomi who still maintain this ancient tradition. The paper is made from the bark of the Amate wild fig tree, nettle tree and mulberry. the bark is first washed and then boiled in a solution of lime juice. It is made into strips and beaten on a wooden board until they melt together and form the desired texture. Then the sheets dry in the sun.
