Introduction to Paper Marbling with Nataliia Dragunova

Date

Have a fantastic experience of paper marbling in this 2 hour workshop. This workshop includes a introduction to the history and the many techniques of marbling and the materials. You will get the opportunity to use two to three different colour combinations to make 6 - 10 A3 size unique sheets.

All materials are provided.

This workshop is for Ebru marbling. The water for the workshop is prepared 2-3 days in advance. Nataliia uses natural dyes, horse hair brushes and special combs to make designs. None of these materials are available for sale in Ireland. It's therefore very difficult to replicate this technique at home after. But at the same time this is our most popular workshop. The experience is almost magical, the paper you make will amaze you.

We do supply Suminagashi Inks for marbling in the shop. This is for a different type of marbling that can be done using unprepared water at home.

Nataliia Dragunova, is a qualified architect and interior designer from Kyiv, Ukraine.
She was introduced to marbling in 2011 when she saw the works of Turkish Ebru master Fatih Yesil, who later become her teacher.
Up to Feb 2022 she lead regular master classes in Kyiv for Marbling as Art and produced marbled papers for old book restoration.
She also started to use marbled patterns in interiors by transferring them on gyps, wood and fabric.
" I believe, this unique old technique can magically inspire and influence people the same way as it changed and embellished my life."

Paper marbling with Nataliia

I spent a lovely day in Liberties papers recently doing Nataliia’s workshop on paper marbling. Nataliia is a very enthusiastic teacher who did her utmost to make sure we got the most from the workshop. We left with a bundle of lovely marbled papers which we can use for making artist books, card making & lots of other creative ideas. Sheila & Paul are very welcoming & are just as enthusiastic as the participants on the course. Their shop is a real treasure trove of fancy art papers & materials, impossible to leave here empty handed! I would heartily recommend this course to anyone interested in the ancient art of paper marbling.

Lovely workshop!

Nataliia is a wonderful teacher and Sheila was so helpful too. We had a very informative and fun afternoon! The class is a great mix of guidance and creative freedom. We were also give ideas of how we could use the marbled paper for different crafts afterwards. I'm tempted to go back for another class too :)

Hugely enjoyable day!

Natalia is a great teacher and very engaging. She has a wealth of knowledge about marbling which she was more than happy to share. I went from knowing nothing about marbling to producing really nice papers under her guidance. Would highly recommend. I did both the Intro and Historical Patterns on the same day which I think is a good way to do it. What’s learned in the morning is applied and amplified in the afternoon resulting in much better technique.

Paper Marbling

Another really excellent workshop with Liberties Papers! Natalliia guided us through the history behind the art of marbling, and doing the marbling itself was a brilliant experience, Plenty of colour combinations and tools to use, as well as techniques and suggestions from Nataliia and Sheila made this a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Thank you !
